Discounts in Sanibel are there, but you do have to search for them closely on the web. The Shalimar was offering extra nights free for midweek stays, so we jumped all over the opportunity to stay beachside. The units have a decent sized living area and are well maintained.

Staycation for those in Fort Myers
You can walk the beach from the hotel and never make it to the end in either directions. Good for locals. We also used Billy's bike rentals to get around.
