Matlacha Definition: The Indian word for Shallow Waters! This community primarily got its start and population base from the mullet fishing. Later the use of the big nets was declared illegal and that part of the city moved on. Vacant buildings were later rented up or purchased as restaurants and art shops. All of this is right next to the city park.

Good Job on showing off Matlacha
I love it here. The bottom line is we are better of showing the benefits of visiting a location than the big budget marketing dollars spent by the county.

What fish to Catch in Matlacha?
It is easy to catch fish here, we love the scene. The species which are the most plentiful are: trout, snapper, ladyfish, flounder, and tripletail. It does not take long to pull in a good meal for the kitchen table.
